How to check if Perplexity, Gemini, or ChatGPT are recommending your competitors instead of you
Ask each assistant the exact question a customer would ask — not "tell me about [my business]," but "who's the best [service] in [city]" — and read the answer closely for who gets named, in what order, and why. Do this across all four major assistants, since they pull from different sources and frequently give different answers to the same question.
The deeper picture
It's tempting to check once and assume the answer is stable, but these answers shift — a competitor picking up new reviews, a new blog post ranking well, or a directory update can change what gets recommended within weeks. A one-time check tells you where you stand today; it doesn't tell you if you're losing ground.
Where this leads
The Toolkit's 5-competitor comparison framework is built for exactly this — running the same 19 scripted queries against yourself and your competitors side by side, so you can see the gap instead of guessing at it. If you'd rather not run it yourself, the Done-For-You Audit does the comparison for you.
